ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΕΣ ΤΩΝ ΑΡΧΑΝΩΝ~ CHURCHES AT THE ARCHANES

ΑΓΙΑ ΕΙΡΗΝΗ Η Εκκλησία της Αγίας Μεγαλομάρτυρος Ειρήνης των Επ. Αρχανών ευρίσκεται στην ομώνυμη τοποθεσία, Νοτιοανατολικά του οικισμού της Κωμόπολης,στη μέση ενός καταπράσινου διάσελου τριών μαγευτικών λόφων,κοντά στο ενετικό φρούριο «Καστέλλι»,που ο συνδυασμός όλων αυτών, κάνουν το τοπίο πολύ εντυπωσιακό.Η πρόσβαση σ ΄αυτήν γίνεται διαμέσου των συνοικιών της Κωμόπολης «Μανίλι» και της νοτιότερης αυτής, «Κερατίδι». Το αρχικό της κτίσμα πρέπει να ανάγεται στη δεύτερη βυζαντινή περίοδο και πιθανόν να γκρεμίστηκε σχεδόν «εκ θεμελίων» στη διάρκεια της Μεγάλης Κρητικής Επανάστασης 1866-69,αφού στο αρχείο της Δημογεροντίας Ηρακλείου του 1861 και 1862, αναφέρεται ως κανονικός ναός στην θέση αυτή,με το όνομα της Αγίας Ειρήνης. Η παράδοση αναφέρει ότι στις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα αναστηλώθηκε από την καπετάνισσα των Αρχανών της απελευθερωτικής Επανάστασης του 1897,Ειρήνη Μαυρογιαννάκη – Ψαραδάκη,κοινώς Μαυρορήνη. Κοντά στην εκκλησία υπάρχουν παλαιά λαξευτά πατητήρια τα οποία ήταν λειτουργικά μέχρι και στις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα σύμφωνα με το με αριθμ.5618/1900 συμβόλαιο του συμβολαιογράφου Αρχανών Νικολάου Αντ.Χριστινίδου,πράγμα που πιστοποιεί ότι η περιοχή αυτή, ανέκαθεν ήταν τόπος με πολλά οινάμπελα. Επίσης,δίπλα της υπάρχει φυσική πηγή «ιαματικού»-πόσιμου- νερού το οποίο οι κάτοικοι το καταναλώνουν με εμπιστοσύνη. Πανηγυρίζει κάθε χρόνο, σε σταθερή ημερομηνία,στις 5 Μαϊου. SAINT IRENE The Church of Agia Magalomartyros Irini of Archana is located in the location of the same name, South-East of the settlement of Komopolis, in the middle of a green valley of three enchanting hills, near the Venetian fortress "Kastelli", the combination of all of which, make the landscape very impressive. Access to it is through the districts of the Town "Manili" and its southernmost, "Keratidi". Its original building must date back to the second Byzantine period and was probably demolished almost "from the ground up" during the Great Cretan Revolution of 1866-69, since in the records of the Heraklion Demogerontia of 1861 and 1862, it is mentioned as a regular church in this location, with the name of Saint Irene. Tradition states that at the beginning of the 20th century it was restored by the captain of the Archanas of the liberating Revolution of 1897, Irini Mavrogiannakis – Psaradaki, commonly known as Mavrorine. Near the church there are old carved winepresses which were functional until the beginning of the 20th century according to the contract number 5618/1900 of the notary Archanos Nikolaou Ant.Christinidou, which certifies that this area has always been a place with many vines. Also, next to it there is a natural spring of "thermal"-drinking-water which the inhabitants consume with confidence. It is celebrated every year, on a fixed date, on May 5.
