ΑΝΕΜΟΣΠΗΛΙΑ ΑΡΧΑΝΕΣ Στη θέση Ανεμόσπηλια , στη βόρεια πλαγιά του όρους Γιούχτας, βρέθηκε το 1979 από τους Γ. και Ε. Σακελλαράκη ένα μικρό ιερό της μινωικής Κρήτης που εξέπληξε την αρχαιολογική κοινότητα. Το μικρό αυτό ιερό έδωσε την πρώτη ένδειξη ανθρωποθυσιών στη Μινωική Κρήτη. Από το διώροφο αυτό κτίριο της εποχής των πρώτων ανακτόρων (17ο αιώνα π.Χ.), που καταστράφηκε από σεισμό λίγες δεκαετίες αργότερα, έχουν ανασκαφεί μέχρι στιγμής τέσσερις χώροι, ίσως όμως να υπάρχουν και άλλοι βοηθητικοί. Στο προθάλαμο του ναού βρέθηκε πλήθος σκευών, βάσεις αγαλματιδίων, 150 περίπου αγγεία διαφόρων σχημάτων ενώ το κεντρικό δωμάτιο ήταν γεμάτο από τα μεγαλύτερα σκεύη του ναού, αγγεία και πιθάρια ενώ στο ανατολικό δωμάτιο, όπου γίνονταν αναίμακτες τελετουργίες, υπάρχει πλήθος αντικειμένων καθώς και ένας κτιστός βαθμιδωτός βωμός πάνω στον οποίο ήταν τοποθετημένα όλα τα λατρευτικά σκεύη. Οι αιματηρές θυσίες γίνονταν στο δυτικό δωμάτιο του ναού, το οποίο ήταν και φτωχότερο σε ευρήματα. ANEMOSPILIA ARCHANES At Anemospilia, on the northern slope of Mount Youchtas, a small sanctuary of Minoan Crete was found in 1979 by G. and E. Sakellarakis that surprised the archaeological community. This small sanctuary gave the first indication of human sacrifice in Minoan Crete. From this two-storey building of the time of the first palaces (17th century BC), which was destroyed by an earthquake a few decades later, four spaces have been excavated so far, but there may be other auxiliary ones. In the vestibule of the temple was found a multitude of utensils, statuette bases, about 150 vases of various shapes while the central room was full of the largest vessels of the temple, vases and jars while in the eastern room, where bloodless rituals took place, there are many objects as well as a built stepped altar on which all the cult utensils were placed. The bloody sacrifices were made in the western room of the temple, which was poorer in finds.
