ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΕΣ ΤΩΝ ΑΡΧΑΝΩΝ~ CHURCHES AT THE ARCHANES

ΑΓΙΟΣ ΜΑΜΑΣ Η μνήμη του Αγίου Μάμα-Μάμαντος τιμάται 2 Σεπτεμβρίου Στη μαγευτική θέση «Κάτω Περβόλια», νότια των Αρχανών, έχει κτιστεί, τώρα και χίλια και περισσότερα χρόνια, όταν δηλ. η περιοχή ήταν περισότερο κτηνοτροφική, ένα γραφικό εκκλησάκι,φρουριακής κατασκευής, που τιμάται στο όνομα του Αγίου Μάμα, προστάτου των βοσκών και των ζώων,αλλά και των υιοθετημένων παιδιών και των θετών γονέων,πιθανόν πάνω σε ερείπια παλαιότερου. Ο ΄Αγιος εικονίζεται συνήθως πάνω σ΄ένα λιοντάρι γιατί, όταν σ΄ένα από τα μαρτύριά του,ρίχτηκε μέσα σε άγρια θηρία,ένα λιοντάρι τον έβαλε στη ράχη του και τον έσωσε βγάζοντάς τον έξω από τον “λάκκο” αυτών των θηρίων. Η πιο παλιά,προς το παρόν,γραπτή της ύπαρξη,αυτής της εκκλησίας,αναφέρεται στα αρχεία της Δημογεροντίας Ηρακλείου το 1861 και αργότερα,το 1886, την συναντάμε σε συμβόλαιο του τότε συμβ)φούντος Αρχανών Εμμαν.Πολυχρονίδη. Στο βορεινό μέρος της αυλής και δίπλα στο ναό υπάρχει τάφος ο οποίος πιθανό να αφορά τον κτήτορα του ναού. SAINT MAMAS The memory of Saint Mama-Mamantos is commemorated on September 2 In the enchanting location of "Kato Pervolia", south of Archana, a picturesque little church, of fortress construction, has been built, now and more than a thousand years ago, when the area was more of a cattle breeding area, which is honored in the name of Saint Mama, patron of shepherds and of animals, but also of adopted children and step-parents, possibly on the ruins of an older one. The Saint is usually depicted on a lion because, when in one of his martyrdoms, he was thrown into wild beasts, a lion put him on his back and saved him by taking him out of the "pit" of these beasts. The oldest, for the time being, written existence of this church is mentioned in the archives of the Demogerontia of Heraklion in 1861 and later, in 1886, we find it in a contract of the then confederate Archanos Emman Polychronides. In the northern part of the courtyard and next to the temple there is a tomb which probably belongs to the founder of the temple.
