ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΕΣ ΤΩΝ ΑΡΧΑΝΩΝ~ CHURCHES AT THE ARCHANES

ΜΙΧΑΗΛ ΑΡΧΑΓΓΕΛΟΣ Μικρός ναός –μονόκλιτη βασιλική- που βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 3,5 χλμ.νότια των Αρχανών στη γραφική τοποθεσία των «Ασωμάτων» Τοιχογραφήθηκε το 1315 μ.Χ. με δαπάνες του Μιχαήλ Πατσιδιώτου και της γυναίκας του σύμφωνα με τη συνοδευτική επιγραφή στις μορφές των κτητόρων στον δυτικό τοίχο, οι οποίοι φέρονται γονατιστοί να προσφέρουν ομοίωμα του ναού στον αρχάγγελο Μιχαήλ. Ο κυρίως ναός φέρει ένα ιδιαίτερο εικονογραφικό πρόγραμμα το οποίο περιλαμβάνει μόνο τρεις σκηνές του χριστολογικού κύκλου.(Ανάσταση, Σταύρωση και Επιτάφιο Θρήνο) και έξι παραστάσεις με θαύματα του Μιχαήλ Αρχαγγέλου.Συγκεκριμένα,στην κόγχη του ιερού είναι η μορφή του Παντοκράτορα που κρατά ανοικτό το ευαγγέλιο στο αριστερό του χέρι, ενώ με το δεξί ευλογεί. Τη θέση αυτή του Παντοκράτορα κατέχει συνήθως στις άλλες εκκλησίες η Πλατυτέρα και κάτω από την ασπίδα επιγραφή που γράφει: «Ναός του πυριμόρφου Ταξιάρχου των άνω δυνάμεων Αστράρχου Μιχαήλ. Ανάμεσα στις σκηνές του κύκλου των θαυμάτων βλέπουμε τη σπάνια απεικόνιση της καταστροφής των Σοδόμων, τον Αβραάμ και τη Σάρα, τη γυναίκα του Λώτ λευκή σαν στήλη άλατος, τη καταστροφή της Ιεριχούς, την Πάλη του Ιακώβ με τον ΄Αγγελο και την απελευθέρωση του Πέτρου. Ο Ευαγγελικός κύκλος αρχίζει με τον Ευαγγελισμό στα πλάγια της αψίδας. Το κέντρο του μετώπου της κατέχει το ΄Αγιο Μανδήλιο. Βλέπουμε ακόμη παράσταση του Αγ. Τρύφωνα προστάτου των αμπελουργών, ένδειξη ότι η αμπελοκαλλιέργεια ήκμαζε και τότε στην περιοχή και πολλές άλλες. Among the scenes of the circle of miracles we see the rare depiction of the destruction of Sodom, Abraham and Sarah, Lot's wife white as a pillar of salt, the destruction of Jericho, Jacob's struggle with the Angel and the release of Peter. The Evangelical cycle begins with the Annunciation on the sides of the apse. The center of its front is occupied by the Holy Handkerchief. We also see a representation of St. Tryphon, the patron saint of winegrowers, an indication that viticulture flourished even then in the area and many others.
