ΜΙΝΩΙΚΕΣ ΑΡΧΑΝΕΣ To ονομα Αρχάνες φαίνεται ότι είναι νεότερος τύπος της αρχαίας πόλης Αχάρνα, όπου βρισκόταν τέμενος προς τιμήν του θεού Άρχου (ή ήρωα), τον οποίο τιμούσαν οι Κνώσιοι και οι Τυλίσιοι , σύμφωνα με επιγραφή που βρέθηκε στο Άργος και χρονολογείται στα 450 π.Χ. Η ύπαρξη αρχαίας πόλης στη θέση των σημερινών Αρχανών επιβεβαιώνεται και από τις ανασκαφές που έγιναν το 1957, το 1964 και τα επόμενα χρόνια. Μέσα στην κωμόπολη ανακαλύφθηκε ανάκτορο της Υστερομινωικής Εποχής με βωμούς αμφίκοιλους και τοιχογραφικό διάκοσμο. Επίσης, στη θέση Φουρνί βρέθηκε εκτεταμένη μινωική νεκρόπολη και σε τάφο βασιλέα βρέθηκαν πολύτιμα κτερίσματα, δαχτυλίδια, σφραγίδες και άλλα. Όλα αυτά πιστοποιούν την ύπαρξη σπουδαίας μινωικής πόλης στο χώρο των σημερινών Αρχανών. MINOAN ARCHANES The name Archanes seems to be a newer type of the ancient city of Acharna, where there was a mosque in honor of the god Archos (or hero), who was honored by the Knosians and the Tylisians, according to an inscription found in Argos and dated to 450 BC. The existence of an ancient city in the place of today's Archanes is confirmed by the excavations that took place in 1957, in 1964 and subsequent years. Inside the town, a palace of the Late Minoan Era was discovered with amphiconcave altars and fresco decoration. Also, an extensive Minoan necropolis was found at Fourni and valuable funeral gifts, rings, seals and more were found in the tomb of a king. All these certify the existence of a great Minoan city in the area of today's Archanes.
