MINOAN ARCHANES ENGLISH At a short distance from Heraklion and Knossos and in a green valley are Archanes, an ideal place for understanding the Minoan culture. Parts of the brilliant palace are preserved among the houses of today's town, while an impressive cemetery was found in neighboring Fourni. A little higher, in the Wind Caves, the excavations brought to light shocking evidence of a human sacrifice. The archaeologists Yiannis and Efi Sakellaraki record the excavation they did in Archanes and for which they were awarded by the Academy of Athens. This book presents the Archanes, which have emerged as a first-class archaeological site and have gone through all the stages of the prehistoric Minoan civilization as well as historical times. In the three chapters that follow after the introduction, the Palace Center, the Cemetery in Fourni and the Sanctuaries are presented.
